There are people imitating Police officers, Telkom workers, etc. Some also use vehicles similar to official vehicles. Please ask for identification before letting anyone onto your property. If you feel uneasy, contact the relevant company/authorities to verify the id. Please warn your domestic workers about this as well and ensure they know who to call.
The latest statistics show that 4 out of every 10 house robbery incidents happen when gates and doors are left open/unlocked. Please make sure that you lock your security gate, and remember to turn your alarm on before going to bed. Be alert when you are outside, especially at night.
The “peak times” for burglaries (unarmed) are between 6am and 12 noon, especially on Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays, with most robberies (armed) from 6pm till 6 am, but please be vigilant at all times.
Another big problem is the cars STILL being parked outside with valuables clearly visible. That is an invitation for trouble. Please put your laptop, handbag, etc. in the boot if you’re not taking it with you.
Also, please try not to leave cars outside your property overnight.
