Criminals pose as Criminals pose as Eskom-installers
Eskom warns residents not to allow entry to their homes to persons representing themselves as Eskom appointed Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb (CFL) installers.
In a media release issued by Eskom in July, the electricity provider says it has come to their attention that an incident had occurred in which criminals have entered a home posing as CFL installers.
“To secure and protect customers from such possible criminal behaviour in future, Eskom has suspended all door to door CFL roll-out initiatives, with immediate effect, pending an investigation into the incident.”
Customers who wish to participate in Eskom’s energy saving CFLs can still do so by visiting their locally advertised exchange points in selected areas in selected suburbs.
Details of exchange points are listed on www.eskom.co.za/dsm.
Eskom further states they regret that a positive initiative has been hampered by a criminal element. They hope to resume the programme in due course after completion of the investigation.
