Diabetes SA Pretoria branch is currently running a "Know your number campaign". We would like to encourage all employers to have their staff members tested for diabetes. TARGETING SCHOOLS IN PRETORIA

Diabetes SA Pretoria would like to come and visit your child's school and come and do an informative talk on diabetes and how to deal with a diabetic child in the classroom. DENIM FOR DIABETES PROJECT

Diabetes SA has started a national project called Denim for Diabetes. We target schools. November is Diabetes Month. The 14th of November is World Diabetes Day. We would like to encourage schools to create diabetes awareness by allowing pupils for one day during November to wear a denim to school and and also wear the denim for diabetes sticker. The sticker is sold to the school for R10 and for every sticker sold we will give R4-00 back to the school. Please assist us by getting your nearest school involved in our project.

DIABETES SA NATIONAL CONFERENCE AUGUST 2010

Our branch hosted the 2010 national conference. The conference was held at the St Georges Hotel. Our branch volunteers all worked very hard to make the conference a success. During the weekend the national management team of Diabetes SA had meetings and on the Saturday afternoon we had approximately 26 exhibition stands which were visited by members of the public. Prof Etienne Kok (Sexologist) presented a talk in the afternoon. Approximately 200 people attended. Everyone really enjoyed Prof Kok's talk.

DIABETES KIDS CAMP 22 - 24 OCT 2010 (KIDS AGES 5 - 11 YEARS)

The annual diabetes kids camp will be held from 22-24 Oct 2010. We are still in great need of financial support as well as items for the camp such as prizes, sugar free cold drinks, items for snacks, sunblock, sweets and drinks for hypos, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, sweeteners, diabetic treats, fire wood for the camp fire, handwashing soap, ice, ice cream and cones. TEENAGE CAMP 2011

Our branch would like to host a camp for teenagers with diabetes in 2011. If you can assist us with any sponsorships for the camp please contact our office at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it We will be needing cash donations to help pay for the kids for the camp as well as donations for snacks, bottled water, cold drinks etc.

BOOKS AVAILABLE

If you buy any books, games, CD's, DVD's and gifts by clicking via our branch website to Kalahari.net we will receive a small commission from Kalahari. Please support us by logging onto www.ptadiabetes.org and clicking onto the Kalahari banner to purchase your items needed from Kalahari. By doing this you will be supporting Diabetes SA Pretoria. Our branch has to raise funds to be able to run projects for diabetes in the community. LADIES BREAKFAST

To help raise funds for our community projects, our branch is hosting a ladies breakfast on Saturday, 2 Oct at 9h00 at the Golden Pipit in End Street, Clubview. We will be selling tickets for R150 per ticket. This will include breakfast, some guest speakers and some exhibition stalls with all kinds of nice gooedies for us ladies. We also have some little surprizes in stall. The dress for the breakfast is Pink and Pearls !!! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We are involved in so many community projects to help create diabetes awareness and assist people with diabetes. If you would like to come and assist us on a voluntary basis, please let us know. We are in great need of people who can assist us with community projects during the week as well as on weekends.

PRETORIA BRANCH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

We would like to invite you to our branch annual general meeting on Saturday, 16 Oct 2010 at 14h00 at the Centurion Hospice Lecture Hall. GLOBAL DIABETES WALK VOORTREKKER MONUMENT

A diabetes walk will be held at the Voortrekker Monument on Saturday, 6 November 2010. More details to follow.

WORLD DIABETES DAY EXPO OVERKRUIN HIGH SCHOOL

We are busy planning the world diabetes day expo for Saturday, 13 Nov 2010 at the Overkruin High School. As soon as we have finalised all the arrangements we will send more information to you.

MAMELODI DIABETES DAY

We are busy planning a diabetes day in Mamelodi for Saturday, 20 Nov 2010. More information to follow about this later.
